IS YOUR SMARTPHONE YOUR BEST FRIEND OR WORST ENEMY?

A Reflection on the Awareness Session at Hazara University

A thought-provoking awareness session entitled “Is Your Smartphone Your Best Friend or Worst Enemy?” was conducted by Juma Ahmadzai on December 19, 2022, at the Iqbal Auditorium of Hazara University in Mansehra. The purpose of the event was to cast light on the profound impact smartphones have on our lives and the role they play in influencing our social interactions, mental health, and well-being.

The session began with an illuminating presentation on the evolution of smartphones and their growing importance in contemporary society. Participants were led through the most recent research and statistics highlighting the detrimental effects of excessive smartphone use on personal relationships, productivity, and mental health.

The participants were encouraged to consider their own smartphone usage patterns and routines. How smartphones can facilitate communication with loved ones, improve educational opportunities, and empower individuals with information at their fingertips were the subject of thought-provoking discussions. In contrast, participants were informed of the dangers of excessive screen time, the addictive nature of applications, and the risk of social isolation.
